Apple Honey Brie Toast (Perfect for Brunch!)

Apple Honey Brie Toast is the fall toast to try. Tart apples, with the nutty, earthy flavor of brie with the sweet honey was an incredible combination. Brie is a mild, buttery cheese that goes very well with sweet flavors such as honey, apples, and all kinds of jam. So this really wasn't all that a hard toast to put together.

But the Apple Honey Brie Toast came together because I had the ingredients and I didn't know what to do with them. I usually eat whole wheat bread with tons of seeds and I am not a fan of using this bread to toasts and grilled cheeses. It doesn't match, in my opinion.

However, I had soup the other day and had a white loaf to it, but didn't eat it all up. Rarely do I have this kind of bread on hand, and thus I tried to make the most of it.

Of course, you can use whatever bread you want, but this is my preference. You could also use maple syrup instead of honey, but I absolutely love the taste of honey. I think the honey really bring out the flavor of the apples, while the brie makes for a creamy, nutty consistency. This is extremely easy to put together, so if you have these ingredients on hand, I suggest you give it a go!

First, choose your bread. You only need 1 slice of bread for each toast. I started out trying to make it as a grilled cheese with two slices of bread, but I quickly aborted this mission. It was such a pretty sight that I couldn't just cover it with a boring slice of bread. We didn't need those extra calories either.

Butter the slice on both sides, place it in a pan (you don't have to butter the pan for this) with medium-low heat. The heat should be low enough for it not to burn, but high enough to get that crispy exterior. I started out with a lower temperature and slowly increased it.

When one side is done, flip it, and add the slices of brie and the slices of apple. The amount of brie that you choose is optional, I like to cut it to about 1 cm thick slices (about 0.5 inch), but I know many like more! The apples should be thinly sliced or it will be overpowering too. When the other side is done (a few minutes), place it on a plate and pour honey on top of it. Yes, it's that easy! And so good too.

Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 7 minutes

Apple Honey Brie Toast is the fall toast to try. Tart apples, with the nutty, earthy flavor of brie with the sweet honey is an incredible combination.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 slices bread, any preferred kind (sourdough is amazing!)
  • 1 tart apple, thinly sliced
  • 100g brie, sliced in 1 cm (≈ ½ inch) thick slices, 3 ½ oz
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. Butter the slices of bread on both sides, place them in a pan over medium-low heat. The heat should be low enough for it not to burn, but high enough to get that crispy exterior. I started out with a lower temperature and slowly increased it.
  2. When one side is done, flip it, and add the slices of brie and the slices of apple. The amount of brie that you choose is optional, I like to cut it to about 1 cm thick slices (about ½ inch). The apples should be thinly sliced or it will be overpowering too.
  3. Cover with a lid for the cheese to melt easier. When the other side is done (a few minutes), place it on a plate and pour honey on top of it. It's also good with a few sprinkles of Maldon salt!
